This is a collection of general interest articles on the Amish, Mennonites and Pennsylvania Dutch largely from newspapers and periodicals. Included are single issues or vols. of the following titles: Ambassador of peace; Amish funnies; The Casselman chronical; the Communal studies newsletter; the Palimpsest; The Pennsylvania-German (Kriebel, Howard Wiegner, ed., June 1911); Rumlaefer (Traveling Tramp) gay Dutch homelife; Young companion. Visual materials in the collection include Amishland (a portfolio of drawings by Kiehl and Christian Newswanger), Amish portfolio (Florence Taylor), photographs of the Amish and Mennonites by Thomas Newcomb, and Mennonite life: maps and charts. A photocopy of an article by Joseph P. Wittmer, Culturally different by religion : the Old Order Amish (published in Experiencing and counseling multicultural and diverse populations, 1995), several small pamphlets (The purity of little girls by Mrs. J.T. Benson, and Who are the Amish?) and an offprint of John A. Hostetler's Mennoniten, Amish, Plain people: Historische und moderne Perspektiven (from Amerika und die Deutschen, 1986) characterize the wide range of materials that comprise the Chris Gaines Memorial Library Collection.
